About Susan Rakowski
Susan Rakowski is the founding editor of Small Business Opportunities, a leading newsstand publication on business startups featuring moneymaking ideas for entrepreneurs. She also edited the quarterly Start Your Own Business and the annual journal Get Rich At Home. The magazines were published by enthusiast and niche publisher Harris Publications that decided in late April, 2016 --after 39 years in the field-- to cease all operations.
Susan ran the publication's website where she was responsible for content, daily posts, social media, the Word Press blog and the weekly digital newsletter featuring guest bylined columns by leading industry experts on social media, branding, marketing, legal issues, technology, small business concerns.
Susan's career in journalism began at Vassar College with her own publication, Interrabang. After graduation (with a Bachelor of Science degree in the college's multidisciplinary program "Science, Technology and Society,") she became the editorial assistant to the New York Bureau Chief at The Wall Street Journal where she wrote page one features. She enjoyed a three year stint as Television Editor for the celebrity weekly, The Star.
She is passionate about demystifying entrepreneurship and helping individuals discover inspiration, tools and techniques to help them start their own small businesses. Susan has a knack for translating complex concepts and topics for the lay audience.
Susan's guest blog posts have appeared on a wide variety of websites and she has been a major content provider to the eBay Small Business Center.
She is honored to serve as VP-Treasurer for the Foundation for New American Art, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization launched by internationally known multi-instrumentalist and artist, Phoebe Legere. The Foundation for New American Art is dedicated to providing art and music resources to underserved and neglected inner-city kids. Susan is a graduate of the New York Junior League's Nonprofits Boards Clearinghouse program, "Leadership Through Governance" course, a training ground for 501(c)3 board management.
